Wreck Hunters (Complete): 1x4

Episode 4 - Kyokuzan Maru, Busuanga, Palawan

In the morning of September 24, 1944, during the 2nd World War, the Americans did a surprise air strike and bombed several Japanese warships off the coast of Coron, Palawan. One of the vessels that were hit in that battle was the Kyokuzan Maru. Relatively intact and sunk in a close to upright position, it is by far one of the most exciting wrecks to dive in as it has all the elements one would imagine from a Japanese warship. Harder to find yet definitely worth the trip! The “Wreck Hunters” go off the beaten path to bring you a close-up view of another battle scarred World War II shipwreck that has found a “new life” at the bottom of the sea. Hosts Ernie Lopez and Wowie Wong also get a chance to spend some time with the indigenous people of Palawan (Tagbanuas) who continue to guard over their ancestral lands and play an important role in the protection of Palawan’s natural wonders. As a side trip, the Tagbanuas also share with them a wonderful underwater experience that gave them a rare close encounter with some of the most sought underwater creatures in the Philippines—the Dugong!
